Mold Remediation In 7 Steps
Mold. Yuck. No one wants to hear about it anymore and certainly no one wants to encounter it. We’ve heard a great deal about mold in recent years, but, unfortunately, it’s not something that is just going to go away. It comes from moisture; in fact, without moisture in some form, mold cannot grow. In order to know where your mold is growing, or hiding, you’ll have to become a mold detective and discover where the moisture is coming from that is giving life to your mold.
Stop The Moisture
Once you find the source of the moisture, take the proper steps to stop it. Depending on what needs to be done to stop the moisture from coming in, you may need to call a professional service, like AA Action Waterproofing, to come in and create a plan with you on how to stop the leak. From the roof to the basement, we’ll find out why you have water and exactly what must be done to end its cycle.
Remediate
Once your home is free from moisture, the mold remediation can begin. If the mold covers a large area, or many different areas, you may need extra help. AA Action Waterproofing is no stranger to mold remediation and we’ll handle the job so that you don’t have to. If you have only a small area of mold to remove, you may be able to handle it on your own. Be sure to follow the recommended health and safety precautions and follow the steps below during your removal process:
- Keep the contaminated area isolated from the rest of the home
- Remove all contaminated items and materials
- Throw away materials in plastic bags that are sealed tightly
- Clean all non-porous surfaces with a wire brush and detergent solution
- Be sure all areas are free of mold and debris
- Dry the area using fans and dehumidifiers
- Keep eyes open for moisture or new mold growth
